Crown Him With Many Crowns | Traditional Christian Hymn | Choir, Piano and Lyrics | Sunday 7pm Choir
"Crown Him with Many Crowns" is a traditional Christian hymn praising Jesus as the 'Lord of Life', the 'Lord of Love' and the 'Lamb upon his throne'. We're honoured to post this video today on the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, or the 'Feast of Christ the King'.
In 1851, Matthew Bridges considered this hymn a "sermon in song" and titled it "The Song of the Seraphs," basing the lyrics on Revelation 19:12. Several years prior to writing the lyrics to this hymn, Bridges had actually converted from being an Anglican to Catholicism.
Recorded live by Sunday 7pm Choir at St. Francis de Sales Parish in Ajax, ON Canada. Thanks for listening and God bless! π
Lyrics
Crown him with many crowns,
The Lamb upon his throne;
Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns
All music but its own:
Awake, my soul, and sing
Of him who set us free,
And hail him as your heavenly king
Through all eternity.
Crown him the Lord of life,
who triumphed o'er the grave,
and rose victorious in the strife
for those he came to save;
his glories now we sing
who died and rose on high,
who died eternal life to bring,
and lives that death may die.
Crown him the Lord of love;
behold his hands and side,
rich wounds, yet visible above,
in beauty glorified;
no angels in the sky
can fully bear that sight,
but downward bends their burning eye
at mysteries so bright.
