The Dedication Of The Lateran Basilica In Rome - Year C - Dedication of the Lateran Basilica & “The Church’s One Foundation”

The Roman basilica of St. John Lateran marks the anniversary of its dedication on Nov. the 9th every year. It’s a feast day for the universal Church, because it is the seat (the cathedra) of the bishop of Rome, Pope Leo XIV, the supreme pontiff. The Lateran — not St. Peter’s in the Vatican — is the cathedral of Rome.

This weekend, we’d like to share six (6) things you need to know about the Lateran on its 1,701st anniversary. To read the full article, please scroll to the bottom of this newsletter where we’ll cover the following topics:

1.   Constantine, Cathedral and Council
2.   Cathedral of Rome
3.   Who Is St. John Lateran?
4.   Still Standing
5.   Relics of the Passion
6.   Papal Tombs

In honor of this feast day, we would like to share our latest video, “The Church’s One Foundation”, a cherished Christian hymn whose lyrics affirm the Church as the body of Christ, founded on Him alone.

This hymn is particularly appropriate for the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica (November 9), which honors the Archbasilica of the Most Holy Savior and Saints John the Baptist and John the Evangelist in Rome, the mother church of all Catholic churches in the world. The feast celebrates the unity and foundational role of the Church in God's plan, making "The Church's One Foundation" a fitting musical tribute.
