Jesus Is Risen & “Hallelujah Chorus”

In this Easter Sunday’s Gospel (John 20:1-18), the women had gone in haste to anoint the Lord’s body and instead found themselves standing before a surprise. When God announces something, it is always a surprise because God is a God of surprises. It has been that way, even from the beginning of the story of salvation with Abraham, as surprises move our hearts and touch us where we least expect.

God’s surprises also demand an immediate response. Peter and John run to the Easter surprise just like the the shepherds on the night when Christ was born. They say, “Let us run to see what the angels have revealed to us.” The Samaritan woman also runs to her people saying, “This is something entirely new. I have met a man who has told me everything that I have done—and the people knew what she had done.

Now ask yourself, do you have a heart open to God’s surprises? Are you able to go quickly, or do you hang back and excuse yourself from action until tomorrow? John and Peter ran to the tomb and the Gospel says they BELIEVED. Let our hearts be joyful with surprise and our cry be Hallelujah!!

In honour of the Resurrection of our Lord, we would like to share our latest video, the "Hallelujah Chorus". This famous chorus comes from George Frideric Handel's 'Messiah', an English-language oratorio composed in 1741 reflecting on Jesus Christ as the Messiah. It was recorded live by the combined Easter Vigil choir at St. Francis de Sales Parish in Ajax, Ontario Canada.
